Dopo un periodo chiacchierato tra palesi dissidi e controtendenze Meghan e Harry hanno annunciato la loro decisione di trasferirsi in Canada. I due hanno annunciato di voler “lavorare” per poter diventare “indipendenti a livello finanziario” e soprattutto di volersi dimettere da “membri senior” della famiglia reale. Insomma, Meghan e Harry vogliono diventare dei comuni borghesi.

Nel pomeriggio il Sun e la rete televisiva ITV avevano iniziato a mettere in giro queste voci, come molte altre in passato che non avevano avuto alcuna conferma. Invece questa decisione pare sia stata già approvata direttamente dalla Regina. Stavolta, i due sembrano intenzionati a fare sul serio.

In più occasioni Harry e Meghan avevano malessere per il loro ruolo da reali. La nascita segretissima di Archie, la fuga dalle telecamere e dai riflettori, il trasferimento a Frogmore Cottage lontano da William e Kate, le voci di un imminente trasferimento in Africa, un’intervista in cui Meghan diceva di “esistere, non di vivere” e Harry “di aver avuto screzi con mio fratello William”, fino all’ultimo Natale passato proprio in Nordamerica, lontani da tutto il resto dalla famiglia reale.

Insomma, oggi è il giorno in cui la famiglia reale si divide. Ma stavolta protagonista è una coppia di giovani che rinuncia a quasi tutti i privilegi reali e scappa via da tutto il resto dei Windsor per farsi una vita propria. Una storia già successa ai tempi di Edoardo VIII, che abdicò l’11 dicembre 1936, per seguire la sua fidanzata Wallis Simpson, divorziata e successivamente risposata, mai accettata dalla famiglia reale. Un duro colpo per gli inglesi.
